- The withholding is on gains, computed against the weighted-average cost.

- Bonus shares and right issues affect your cost basis — record them when issued, not at the sale.
The exception most miss. Multiple parcels of the same stock bought at different prices average across — not FIFO. Keep an external cost-basis log if you trade actively; broker statements vary in clarity.
