Short answer: For most Nepali freelancers in 2026, Khalti–Stripe is the simplest, Wise is the cheapest at scale, and Payoneer is the fallback when a client refuses anything else.
A clean comparison.
| Rail | Speed to wallet | Fee shape | Best when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Khalti–Stripe | Near-instant to NPR | 2.9% + USD 0.30 (Stripe) plus 5% TDS deducted at payout | Client pays by card; you want NPR in-app today |
| Wise | 1 to 3 business days | Mid-market FX + ~0.4 to 0.6% | Recurring USD or EUR over USD 2,000/month |
| Payoneer | Same-day to USD balance; 1 to 2 days to NPR via bank | 2% withdrawal + FX margin | Marketplaces (Upwork, Fiverr) that prefer Payoneer |
The exception most people miss. Stripe via Khalti deducts 5% TDS at payout and gives you NPR in-app — but the conversion rate is the bank’s, not the mid-market. On large invoices, the FX gap can be larger than the saved Stripe fee. Run the maths on a USD 1,000 invoice both ways before committing.
