Short answer: Call during working hours, name what you are experiencing in one sentence, and ask for the next available appointment. They will route from there.
A short script that works.
- “I have been feeling [low / anxious / unable to sleep] for [X] weeks. I would like a counselling appointment.”
- If asked about urgency: “It’s not an emergency. I would like the soonest available slot.”
- If it is an emergency: “I am safe right now but I am struggling. Can I speak to someone today?”
The exception most miss. Crisis-hour helplines have varying uptime. If one does not pick up, try a second. Findahelpline.com/np lists currently active numbers.
